A historic name in Ohio’s marine industry, Lyman Boat Works was established in 1875 by a German immigrant. Starting with rowboats, Lyman Boat Works would progress to sailboats and later outboard motor boats into the 1920s. At the peak period of Lyman Boat Works, the company constructed 5,000 boats per year. Holding out on a switch from wood to the new, trendier fiberglass construction, Lyman Boat Works would begin to abandon wooden hulls into the 1970s. Lyman Boat Works would meet production demise in 1981 after less than a decade of creating fiberglass bow riders
