Since the foundation of the Jaguar luxury marque, there have been a number of high-quality sedans (identified as saloons in the United Kingdom). In 1968, Jaguar introduced the XJ sedan series. The XJ6 (originally signifying the use of a six-cylinder engine) and later a twelve-cylinder powered XJ12. The XJ12 was eventually discontinued while the XJ series gained eight-cylinder engine power in the late 1990s. Over the decades, the Jaguar XJ construction underwent modernization including the adoption of an all-aluminum body in 2003. The flagship sedan of the current Jaguar brand, the XJ employs a boldly contemporary style. In addition to the XJ, Jaguar serves the luxury sedan segment with the XF as well as the recently introduced XE premium compact. Conforming to 21st century luxury tastes, all-wheel drive and InControl Touch system is found on current Jaguar models.
