South Korean-based Kia Motors continues in its ambitions to make a footprint in the United States with low-cost new vehicles. A model line consisting of two vehicles, the 1998 Kia selection features the largely unchanged Sephia compact as well as the largely revised Sportage sport utility line. For 1998, the Sportage receives a styling refresh for the four-door model. The 1998 Kia Sportage also adds a new two-door convertible body style featuring a manual soft top for rear seat passengers. The GS trim level has been dropped from the Kia Sephia for 1998 leaving the choice of only the LS and RS.
