The 1999 model year marks the end of the Buick Riviera. The two-door personal luxury car that has been a mainstay in the Buick product line-up since the early 1960s is being retired with a 200-car limited edition Silver Arrow model. While the Riviera nameplate is being discontinued, Buick's LeSabre model preservers into its 40th year in the United States market. For 1999, no major changes affect the LeSabre sedan. The 1999 Buick Century and Regal receive a retuned suspension for better road manners. A tire pressure monitoring system is also fitted to the mid-size Century and Regal sedans. Available only as a fleet vehicle in 1998, Buick has completely dropped its compact Skylark for the 1999 model year.
