The 1999 Mercury Mountaineer, an upscale version of the popular Ford Explorer, is a mid-size SUV. The Mountaineer is available with RWD, 4WD, or AWD. The RWD and 4WD versions come standard with a 4.0L V6 producing 210 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. The AWD version receives a 5.0L V8 which produces 215 hp, 288 lb-ft of torque, and has a tow rating of nearly 7,000 lbs. All different versions utilize a four-speed automatic transmission.
