Pontiac celebrates a newly-restyled Grand Am, a rebranded minivan and an anniversary of a popular pony car staple for 1999. Wider and longer wheelbase than its predecessor, the redesigned 1999 Pontiac Grand Am returns as a coupe and sedan. With the Pontiac Grand Prix, the naturally-aspirated powerplant receives a minor five-horsepower improvement. The Pontiac Sunfire remains offered as a convertible for 1999 but is now associated with the GT trim level. For 1999, Pontiac's minivan gains a new name. The Trans Sport name has been replaced by Montana (a name associated with an option package for the minivan in previous years). A mild horsepower boost to the naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter engine of the Grand Prix is accompanied with new options such as a Bose eight-speaker audio unit. The 1999 Firebird Trans Am model celebrates its milestone 30th anniversary in 1999. In honor of the accomplishment for the Pontiac pony car, a 30th Anniversary Trans Am is available with the convertible or t-top coupe body style. A white with blue striping outer appearance used with the 30th Anniversary Trans Am pays tribute to the original 1969 Trans Ams.
