The 2000 Mazda Protege is a compact, five-passenger sedan rated at over 30 mpg on the highway. Two four-cylinder engines are available; a 1.6L producing 105 hp and a 1.8L which generates 122 hp. Each trim comes standard with a five-speed manual however a four-speed automatic is optional. For the new model year, the interior of the Protege has been subtly updated with more luxurious touches.
