The Mercedes-Benz line-up adds several advancements to powertrain and handling technology for the 2001 model year. 2001 delivers AMG high-performance treatment to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class as well as the CLK-Class. The all-new CLK55 AMG features a 342-horsepower V-8 engine and adds a stiffer performance suspension as well as 17-inch wheels. The new Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG is propelled by a 354-horsepower, 5.4-liter V-8 engine and includes Active Body Control. A 2001 S600 model is also included with the S-Class line powered by a twelve-cylinder engine featuring cylinder deactivation for better fuel consumption. The 2001 Mercedes-Benz SLK line adds some extra muscle. The 2001 SLK230 gains five extra horsepower and receives a six-speed manual gearbox. An all-new 215-horsepower, 3.2-liter V-6 propels the SLK320 model. Hill Descent Control is a new feature found on the 2001 M-Class.
