Starting in 2000, General Motors acquired full ownership of the Saab auto company formally integrating the Swedish brand. Continue to boast a turbocharged line of premium automobiles with inspiration from aviation, the 2001 Saab lineup is represented once-again by the 9-3 and 9-5. Traction control is now included standard on the 2001 Saab 9-3 range adding an extra level of driving safety by maximizing grip. Base performance from the Saab 9-5's turbocharged 2.3-liter engine has grown to 185 horsepower for 2001. The General Motors-derived OnStar system is now standard on both the Saab 9-3 and 9-5 models for 2001 serving as a voice-operated tool for communications as well as for emergencies.
