For 2002, Mitsubishi introduces the Lancer name to the United States market as a subcompact replacement to the Mirage. Powered by a 120-horsepower four-cylinder engine, the Mitsubishi Lancer may be instantly recalled by international motorsport fans as recognizable to the high-performance Evolution VII raced overseas. A sport-themed O-Z Rally edition of the Lancer provides some factory guided performance accentuation to the subcompact. The Mirage remains available for 2002 as only a two-door coupe. On 2002 models of the Mitsubishi Galant, front and rear styling has received a facelift while an emergency inside truck release has been added. The Mitsubishi Montero's XLS trim level enjoys a larger list of optional equipment such as rear air conditioning. The smaller Montero Sport is now available with a more user-friendly ALL4-wheel drive system.
