The Subaru Impreza has received a well-deserved re-engineering for 2002. Gaining a significantly strengthened chassis for greater handling and safety, the 2002 Impreza redesign is most notable for its oval-shaped headlights. With a sedan and wagon body style available, the new Subaru Impreza no longer offers the coupe. A new Outback Sport and a WRX model with a turbocharged boxer engine are also offered with the 2002 Impreza. The Subaru Legacy sedan line-up is strengthened in 2002 with items previously reserved for the Legacy wagon. The 2002 Legacy sedan features the inclusion of a flat-six engine option while advanced anti-skid technology is added with the VDC Outback sedan. On the S-trimmed version of the 2002 Subaru Forester, an optional OV Premium Package equips the crossover wagon with side airbags and a sunroof.
