The 2004 Subaru Forester is a compact SUV available in three trim levels – the 2.5 X, the 2.5 XS and a new-for-2004 model, the 2.5 XT featuring a turbocharged engine. The Forester features a 165 horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder in the X and the XS and a 210 horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder in the XT. With all models, buyers have the option of either an automatic or manual transmission. Standard equipment includes ABS brakes, AWD, driver and passenger front and side-body airbags, air conditioning, cruise control, lumbar seats, power steering, windows, locks and mirrors.
