Following the G6's high-profile entrance in 2005, the 2006 model year shows Pontiac engaged in a campaign of extensive rebranding. Perhaps the new soul of Pontiac, an all-new compact performance roadster called the Solstice premieres. The 2006 Pontiac Solstice is a rear-wheel drive, two-seat drop-top balancing comfort and driving dynamics. For 2006, the Pontiac G6 line-up adds two more body style choices in addition to the already-available sedan. A sporty two-door coupe and a stunning retractable hardtop convertible model of the 2006 G6 shares a sophisticated, performance-minded appearance. A GTP model of the Pontiac G6 is also added for 2006 propelled by a 3.9-liter V-6 engine. For 2006, the Grand Am has also been officially replaced by the G6. Replacing the awkward Aztec crossover vehicle, the Pontiac Torrent features more conservative exterior styling. The new five-passenger, mid-sized crossover is powered by a 185-horsepower, 3.4-liter V-6 engine with available all-wheel drive. A continuously featured nameplate in the Pontiac line-up since 1958, the Bonneville is no more starting in 2006. The mid-sized Pontiac Grand Prix inherits the role as the brand's flagship sedan.
