Two major product enhancements are part of the 2009 MINI lineup. Two years after the MINI Cooper hardtop hatchback was redesigned, attention turned to the convertible model. Based on newer, slightly longer architecture, the 2009 MINI Cooper Convertible also receives upgraded powerplants. The convertible continues to employ a soft top roof with an integrated "sunroof mode". Another major addition to the MINI lineup for 2009 is the all-new John Cooper Works trim level. Previously offered as a kit, this new top-tier performance trim model is named after a historically significant race car builder and figure responsible for the original MINI Cooper's competition success. Available on the Cooper hardtop, Cooper Convertible and the Clubman, a 208-horsepower engine is accompanied by unique 17-inch wheels, upgraded braking and a sport-tuned suspension.
