2016 model year changes

After a major redesign last year, the Golf gets only evolutionary changes for 2016. A new, updated stereo system runs on improved software, offering more connectivity and smartphone integration. The Driver Assistance Package has also seen significant updates, with new features such as adaptive cruise control and a forward collision warning system. In addition, S models now come standard with a backup camera.

Special features for 2016

Few cars have the staying power or instant recognition of the Volkswagen Golf, and the all-new Golf picks up right where its predecessor left off -- with even more to like. As a leader in the busy hatchback segment, the Golf is loaded with standard features, excellent ergonomics and plenty of practical space for passengers and cargo. Turbocharged power gives the Golf 1.8T plenty of pep. The GTI is a perennially lauded "hot hatch," is tremendously fun to drive and starts at just around $25,000.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI comes with either two or four doors and is available in three trims. Base trim outfitting includes 18” wheels, LED fog lamps, vanity rear spoiler, heated and powered side mirrors, standard cloth seating, sport-tuned suspension and braking system, tilt and telescope steering wheel, 60/40 split and folding rear seating, 5.8” touchscreen with Bluetooth/iPod/USB integration and the VW Car-Net telematics system. Upgrade the trim level or add options and you can get automated headlamps and wipers, powered sunroof, leather seating, Fender sound system, climate control, powered and heated front seating, parking sensors (front/rear), bi-xenon headlamps, collision mitigation system, LED daytime running lights, larger 18” wheels, limited-slip front differential, racing brakes, adaptive damping suspension system and more. Powering the Golf GTI is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 210 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
