About Astro Passenger
The Chevrolet Astro debuted in 1985 with a cargo and passenger van at the height of the small van market explosion. Able to hold up to eight occupants, the Astro Passenger van delivered exceptional interior space, ample headroom and robust towing. Built on a truck-like frame, Chevrolet played down referring to the Astro Passenger van as a minivan. Instead, the van was billed as a slightly larger alternative to one. However, the proportions of the Chevrolet Astro Passenger van was actually smaller than minivans sold in the 21st century. The Astro was the smallest available passenger van from Chevrolet until the arrival of the Lumina APV minivan for the 1990 model year. Initially offered with rear-wheel drive, an all-wheel drive option was made available on the Chevrolet Astro Passenger van as part of several 1990 updates. Refreshed front end styling was found on the 1995 Chevrolet Astro Passenger van while a new interior dash panel would be added the following year complete with a passenger side airbag. Throughout the production of the Astro Passenger van, variations of a 4.3-liter V-6 engine were used to propel the vehicle. After 20 years in production, the Chevrolet Astro Passenger van was retired in 2005.
