Debuting for the 2002 model year, the Ferrari 575M Maranello was a modernization of their front-engined, two-seat V-12 performance machine. Headlights featuring xenon light technology, improved braking and an adaptive damping system were some of the attributers found on the revised Ferrari. Replacing the 550 Maranello, the 2002 Ferrari 575M Maranello’s name defines one of the major improvements made to the car. An enlarged 5.7-liter V-12 engine located under the hood of the 575M Maranello generated 515 horsepower. Higher compression ratios and an enhanced intake also contribute to the added performance. Using technology derived from world championship auto racing, Ferrari introduced a Formula 1-syle electro-hydraulic gearbox. The F1 transmission featured steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters with an automated clutch.
With the F1 gearbox, 0 to 62-mile per hour acceleration times are performed in 4.2 seconds. A six-speed manual transmission was still available on the 575M Maranello for drivers more accustomed to traditional shifting. Programmable electronic traction control was also added to the Ferrari 575M Maranello providing overall handling characteristics based on a ‘normal’ or ‘sport’ mode. Inside the more functional two-passenger cabin, the 2002 575M Maranello included a simplified, single pod instrument display as part of a redesigned dashboard.
The drivers’ seat for 2002 also added six-way power adjustment with position memory. Over the course of the 575M Maranello’s three-year run, individualized touches to the two-seater berlinetta could also be added through the Ferrari-approved Carrozzeria Scaglietti Personalization Programme. Production of the Ferrari 575M Maranello ceased after the 2004 model year succeeded by the 599 GTB Fiorano.
