About XJ

The Jaguar XJ saw the addition of a brand new and very capable V8 engine in 1998, which was borrowed from the popular XK8 model. The instrument panel was redesigned and cruise control and radio control were added to the steering wheel. The 1999 model year feature no significant changes, with a few optional add-ons being offered to buyers. In 2000, Jaguar added the supercharged Vanden Plas model. In addition, the XJ8 saw added features that included traction control, smart ABS, rain-sensing windshield wipers, new GPS system and child seat-anchor brackets, all which came as standard options.

A new anti-theft system was also introduced and two new body colors were added as well. The 2001 model year saw the application of the 2000 model year additions to the XJ8 being made to the XJR. New 18 wheels were also offered as was a new interior seat style. In 2002, the XJ Sport trim was introduced. The carmaker also made the Vanden Plas Supercharged model available to all buyers; as opposed to only be offered on special order. Jaguar also discontinued the XJ8L during this year. In 2003, the XJ featured two new packages that offered wood interior trim, Alpine audio system, chrome grilles and splitters with chrome exterior trim and signature wheels. The XJR now featured optional Brembo brakes with modular 18 wheels.

In 2004, Jaguar would redesign the XJ model with a brand new look. In 2005, the longer wheelbase models were added to the fleet. For the 2006 model year, the V8 engine models saw an increase in horsepower and a new braking system. The carmaker also added noise-reducing laminated windows, satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity and an internal pressure monitoring system for the tires. The Super V8 Portfolio trim was also issued as a limited edition.

The 2007 XJ offered Bluetooth as a standard feature and also boasted upgrades to the leather upholstery in the XJR and XK8 models. In 2008, the styling was updated in the XK coupe. New fender vents in the front were added as was a new grille and a new bumper. Increased cabin room and cooled seats were now available, as was HD radio. In 2009, the XJ8 and the XJ8 l featured 19 wheels on all models, GPS, luxury audio system and parking sensors in the front all came standard. The 2010 XJ model had minimal changes. But in 2011, the body style was redesigned to offer a sleeker and more ergonomic look.

In 2012, the XJ Supersport featured a rear entertainment center with massaging rear seats and a longer wheelbase. In 2013, Jaguar offered new engine, a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The electronics interface was also improved and a new audio system was added to the XJ lineup, too. In 2014, Jaguar replaced the Supersport trim with the XKR. It also downgraded the V8 engine in the XJL Portfolio model to a 3.0-liter V6 engine. Soft-closing doors were added to all models, the seat massagers were upgraded and a premium audio system became an optional add-on. The Ultimate trim level would be discontinued.
