Creating a new premium compact entry for the 2011 model year, Lexus chose to combine the youthful athleticism of a sport hatchback with a hybrid drivetrain. Built on Toyota's corporate MC platform, the 2011 Lexus CT utilized the hybrid powertrain used with the Toyota Prius. A gasoline-powered 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and a potent electric motor fed by a nickel-metal hydride battery are integral components of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system. Generating 134 horsepower, the Lexus CT 200h can achieve up to 43 miles per gallon fuel economy on city streets or 40 miles per gallon on the highway. A sporty suspension setup for the CT 200h provided the compact hybrid with responsive road control while amenities such as dual-zone climate control, 10-way power driver's seat and SmartAccess key system came standard. In 2014, the Lexus CT 200h was granted a significant exterior and interior refresh including a new spindle grille, shark fin antenna and a cabin featuring a new, optional Navigation and Display Audio system. The 2014 model year Lexus CT 200h also introduced an F Sport appearance package adding items such as two-tone graphite machined finish 17-inch wheels, perforated leather seating and a solid black roof. Due to slumping sales in recent years, Lexus has chosen to drop the CT 200h for the 2018 model year in the United States and Canada.
