About Galant

New solar-tinted glass was featured on the 98 Galant, while a few trim levels got black grilles and standard manual transmissions. A newer, longer-lasting battery and starter was added for all trims. For 99, an optional V6 engine was offered and sport-tuned suspension was added to the GT model during a complete overhaul of this car. The 2000 Galant offered a few new standard features and optional CD player, cruise control and larger tires, with several new body colors made available. In 2001, Mitsubishi added traction control, heated mirrors and an all-weather package as options. A revamped interior and exterior graced the 2002 model year, with a new LS model that offered an array of options like remote entry with trunk-opening.

The carmaker also modified the gauge cluster, and offered new 16 wheels for the GTZ and LS models. Nominal changes were made to various trims for the 2003 model, with optional powered sunroof and traction control as well as an Infinity sound system. A newly designed and wider Galant made its entrance in 2004, redesigned to better compete with rival carmakers. Side impact air bags made their debut in the Galant for 2005, as did heating ducts in the floor (rear) and a new blackwood trim in the GTS model.

The car would carry through 2006 with subtle updates, but received a new grille, new bumpers and a revamped interior for 2007. In 2008, a few trims were removed with some shuffling of optional equipment between the remaining trims. Sexy new tail lamps and a new grille graced the 2009 Galant, with minor changes being made to the trims and options. In 2010, the V6 engine option was dropped, with all models only offering a four-cylinder engine. The Galant would make it through 2011 and 2012 relatively unchanged.
