About Jetta

A new TDI rolled off the line for the Jetta in 1998, and Volkswagen added new body colors and remote entry as standard features across all trims with minor updates to options. A half-year model let buyers purchase a new or existing Jetta in 1999, with major shuffling of trim levels seeing many updates and some trims discontinued. Halfway through the model year, an all-new Jetta (2000) was introduced, offering a Euro body style, a more powerful engine and a sleeker interior and exterior. The big update for 2001 was an optional 1.8T engine for the GLS trim. In 2001, the interior materials were upgraded with new velour and cloth, new side-impact airbags and steering wheel mounted audio controls.
