About S40

The S40 was introduced in 2000 by Volvo, offering a newentry-level sedan with a long list of standard and safety features. In 2001,updated safety was the theme, with new dual-stage front airbags, newhead-protection airbags, and a new child seat-safety system. The engine got apower boost with reduced emissions, and an updated center stack graced thecabin, alongside new headlights, updated bumpers and fenders. Updates to theupper trim levels were the only changes for 2002. But in 2003, Volvo boostedthe hp on the 1.9-liter turbocharged engine to 170 hp, an increase of 10.

 

A CDplayer was also added, as well as new front fascias, colored side-molding, a newsteering wheel and a new instrument cluster. In 2004, a half-year model update offered a longerwheelbase, more interior room, two new engines and three new transmissions.Model years 2005-2006 only featured upper trim level and optional packageupdates. For 2007, stability control was added as a standard feature. The 2008S40 featured a new center console, an input jack on the audio system andupdates to improve power to all engines. In 2009, the manual transmission modelwas discontinued, and new standard features were added that included: Bluetoothintegration, 17 wheels, fog lights, sunroof, powered driver seat and aneight-speaker audio system. Model years 2010-2011 only featured minor updatesto the upper trim levels and options.
